Dispersion

DISPERSION

  • Hegman Gauge | Fineness of Grinding Gauge

Hegman Gauge (fineness of Grinding Gauge is suitable for Determination of the fineness of grind of pigments in liquid paints, inks and related products using a suitable gauge. It is a simple and convenient method of monitoring the progress of the dispersion stage of manufacture and for a QC check on the finished product.

There are no pass/fail criteria defined in the standard. This is a matter of agreement between the parties concerned.

The precision gauge are manufactured from hardened stainless steel and has two ground channels giving scales of both microns and Hegman scale. Supplied complete with scraper blade.

In operation the paint / ink samples not more than 100 gms are placed into the top end of the gauge and then drawn down using the scraper blade. The measurement of either microns or hegman can be made where the coarse particles have been screened out.

can be used in accordance with following standards ISO 1524, BS3900: C6, DIN 53-203, ASTM D1210, ASTM D1316, ASTM D333.

    Available Ranges

Suitable for PAINT and Allied Products

    • 0 to 25 micron     (2.5 micron Graduation)     | 8 - 6 Hegman
    • 0 to 50 micron     (5.0 micron Graduation)     | 8 - 4 Hegman
    • 0 to 100 micron (10.0 micron Graduation)     | 8 - 0 Hegman

Suitable for INK and Allied Products (Only Micron Scale)

    • 0 to 10 micron    (1.0 micron graduation)
    • 0 to 15 micron    (1.5 micron Graduation)

    other information
    0 Hegman = 4 mil/100 micron particle size
    4 Hegman = 2 mil/50 micron particle size
    8 Hegman = 0 mil/0 micron particle size
